We was set the task of producing three adverts on a drink we had to create and design. Our first thoughts were what style of drink we was going to base our product on, we decided we wanted to do an energy drink and it was going to be aimed at young people of the sporty type. we had a list of idea's for the name of the product but decided on the name 'VIVACIOUS' the reason for this was because it was bold and it linked with the idea of energy and enjoyment.
After choosing what style product we was going to do we had to design a label that had to be created and this looked at the aspect of color scheme, we decide on blue, yellow and orange the reason for this is because yellow and orange are a big contrast to the blue and would stand out against it so after choosing the colours we then designed a label on photoshop which was pretty easy as we already had skills using photoshop after doing that we stuck it round a lucozade bottle the reason for this was because lucozade use a very similar colour scheme to what we picked and it linked in with the whole energy drink.
we not only had to focus on producing three adverts but also on how well we could hold a steady shot, the appropriate framing's of the shots and the variety of camera angles and shooting material we used, on top of that we had to think about Mise-en-scene.
In all three video's we produced I feel we're at a proficient level on the ability to hold a steady shot due to all our filming being contionously steady, the tracking shot that is used throughout all three video's proves we have the ability to hold a steady shot as none of the filming is in anyway shaky, every character in the shot is framed as they should be so this also cover's the framing a shot appropriately, however to improve on both of these area's you could use a tripod which would give us an even etter quality of filming.
The question we had to ask was whether the shooting material matched the task that was set, I personally feel it was. For all three of our adverts we kept the same idea, we based it on sporting events and the idea of a celebrity being involved, however we varied the different sports to show the drink was aimed at all different types of people for example our first one was golf, second football and the third tennis . We thought the idea of similar adverts would help the audience recognise it was the same product, I think this idea of ours was very clever and due to our slogan 'ENHANCE, IMPROVE, WIN' being included in every advert it shows another link. I would say our group can be marked as a proficient in this category as all aim's were met and the shooting material was almost at the best it could be.
For the mise-en-scene we new we would have to think wisely on where would be appropriate to shoot our film, who we would use and what props would be needed. I think we was proficient in this area because we used three different locations to portray the sports, we thought about lighting and sound and not only did we use boys for the sports but girls also showing that the drink was for both genders. The only thing we could have improved on in our video's would have to be the wind and background noise in the tennis shots due to us not being aware how loud the wind was, because of this during editing we had to turn the audio down. On top of doing that we done a voice over in which we kept it the same voice throughout all three video's, this was another way for the audience to recognise the product being the same, I feel this was successful and all in all this has given me something to think about next time I'm filming.
Looking back over all the adverts although I feel my group done well filming I'd say we're only at a basic level with the variety of camera angles we used, they were all very simple camera angles and we didn't take it to that extra level that would give us a proficient level. If we was to do the filming again, to improve it we would have to think about a greater variety of camera angles which would show our greater ability of skills we have in filming.
Overall I feel the task that was set went very successful and we encountered no problems throughout the planning and filming proccess, I would probably mark it at a high basic possibly a low proficient as it could be improved a bit more if there was more time in editing. After doing this task I feel it has helped me think about what I need to focus on in my next project and what things can be improved upon.

Evaulation of video task 2
The outline of the task was to produce a video with a title of 'The phone call' we created a story from the title and produced a video to go along with it. The idea of our story was to show a conversation between the England football team manager and a team player, giving the player the news of making the squad. Due to the shots being in a certain order we didn't manage to film all aspects from our second character this therefore impacted on our editing and certain clips couldn't be included because of the order not being correct.
After watching the video a few times, you can see its not been very well edited however The 'Ability to hold a shot steady' can be marked as proficient, the reason for this is when you watch the video there isn't one shot that cuts people out unless its meant to and handheld shots aren't wobbly.
Our shooting matrial would have to be basic because although we managed to film a phone call we and edit it together we didn't finish all parts of the filming therefore it impacted on the length of the film and how much we could actually bring together.
Due to not all members of my group being in the shots didn't get edited properly and this means I can only give it a basic grade for the overall outcome of the video. I feel if every memeber of my group put effort into it and if we finished all shots we could have produced a proficient video. We need to work on timing more and the ways of editing, due to it being our first attempt we had great difficulty.
All in all the task we set out today was a good attempt but can be graded no more than a basic in my point of view, there's a huge room for improvement and hopefully you will see this in the next video produced.

Evaluation of Video task
Due to my group not creating our planned video, I have chose to evaluate another groups work(Chels, Jess & Ben). I will be looking at the skills they use, what they actually did in the video, props used and suggestions to improve their work.
They created a video of the tour of the school and it was aimed at students leaving school and intrested in going to sixth form. The idea of the video was to give a tour of aspects of the school which portrayed the school in a positive light, you had to focus on shots, angles and movement, how steady you could hold a shot.
I felt the group i'm evaulating worked very well together and produced a successful first attempt, on the mark scheme I gave them for 'holding a shot steady' a proficient the reason for this was because I felt they held it very steady almost throughout the whole video. Small improvements could have been made, watching it back showed although they was very good at a holding it steady a tripod would have been more useful meaning holding the shot steady would be less to worry about. Not only does a tripod help to keep the camera steady it helps 'frame a shot appropriately' meaning it helps to frame the video and stops things from being cut out, although the group worked quite well on framing I can only give them a basic because on the odd occasion in the video they cut out half the persons face when they're talking.
The other thing we looked at was 'variety in of shots and distances' I will give them a proficient for this as I felt they used various angles such as low angles, two shots, tracking shots and they used swish pan. this is only a few examples of the types of shots they did, They could improve on them however they done a good job.
The task set was achieved to a good standard I think they attempted it and achieved the goal of producing a tour guide of the school, because of the approach they went for the informal/friendly look it draws people in more to think its a nice enviornment to be in and makes the audience feel at ease. The mise-en-scene they went for was good however they could have placed themselves better as the background noise level was overpowering at times, because I found this distracting I will have to give them a basic level.
Overall I think they achieved the task goal well and it turned out as a very good first attempt, you can see form watching it back the improvements that need to be made but all in all they done a good first attempt.

AS MEDIA MAGAZINE EVALUATION
SIMILARITIES
1. Both the titles are some what similar in the concept that they both stand out on the covers, although they're not the same colour or Font they both would stand out to the buyer. The text links with the type of genre it is, for example because its rock/indie people expect to see a edgy, scruffy yet bold title in which I believe it is.
2. Every magazine has a main image, this is what makes the magazine look professionl. The main cover image is usually the focus subject of the magazine, I therefore like 'MOJO' focused my cover on an artist. My image is black and white and 'MOJO's' is blue yet I still think they're similar as they both have that manipulated effect that contrasts it to the original photograph.
Another reason why I chose to use just one image and no others was because I think it looks more professional than lots of scattered images, I wanted the focus to stay on the main subject also.
3. The colour Scheme of both magazines are alike, both use the Black, white, red and Blue. This is resemble the rock colours, black and white together resemble the rock genre and with the blue and red it gives it the indie edge, blue and red both show its a mixed gender magazine, blue is the traditional boys colour and pink is girls however red is also a girls colour.
4. All magazines should include a barcode, Both mine and the professional product have one, mines a slight bit bigger however they've both been placed in recognizable places.
DIFFERENCES
5. On MOJO's cover they seem to mention Free stuff quite a lot and on top of that you get a free CD with it, mine however is very different It doesn't mention anything itgives away to its audience. This may seem like a disadvantage because thats what keeps the audience loyal however I feel my audience will be happy enough with updates on all their favourite bands.
6.Unlike MOJO I only have one image on my cover, they have their main image and a small one in the corner aswell as that they have the CD on the cover which distracts the whole theme of Paul Weller being the main focus, I feel with mine nothing takes the focus off my artist.
7. My lacks headlines down the side of cover, Mojo's cover is full of them. This could be a disadvantage on mine however I have included headlines at the top and bottom this gives hints on whats to come inside.
8. MOJO gives away a free CD which I have already mentioned, however giving away things such as CD's would mean making a magazine more exspensive and this could impact on how many people would be willing to spend that amount on a magazine.
I am comparing my contents page to NME's contents page.
SIMILARITIES
Both contents pages include the 'This week' and the noticeable name of each magazine, this is to show the audience that its the contents page telling you whats occuring in the magazine and it also links it to your cover by including the magazine name.
Another similarity is the way both contents pages have headlined each section in the magazine boldly, this helps the reader find the section they want and then select the page in which their intrested in. One other thing thats similar in both these magazines are that they include not just one picture but a few, this gives the contents page a bit of variety and makes it easier to look at.
DIFFERENCES
NME includes part of a story in their contents however mine doesn't, I think it gives too much away to the audience. The difference between my ictures in my contents to NME's ones are that mine are their to show the audience what some stories are about and even have the page numbers on them. NME have included a band index down the side of their page, I think this has its good qualities and bad, on the positive side it gives the audience a list of bands in which they may be intrested in and may make them more engaged to the magazine and for the disadvantage if I included that it would make the page too busy and because I have bands on the front cover its all a bit too much adding a list in the contents also.
Now onto comparing double page spreads i'm comparing it to a double page spread in KERRANG.
SIMILARITIES
My main colour scheme is some what similar to Kerrang's for example we both use the same black background, white and red text, this works well due to it linking with the whole colour scheme throughout my cover and contents, Kerrang uses the same colour scheme also. As mentioned early I think this is to resemble the whole idea of it being a rock magazine.
They both have a bold headline at the top of the page, this stands out and tells the audience the subject on that page.
Both magazines have a news feed down the side and this updates the audience on things that could be of intrest to them.
DIFFERENCES
Some things that are different are that my double page is based on an interview where Kerrang's double page isn't, my interview led to me picking out a pull quote, this stands out and makes the reader want to read the interview.
One other difference is the way I have only included two pictures of which have relevance to the artist in the interview, where as Kerrang have atleast four of which are in black and white. I have also included 3 images in my news feed, this links to the news i'm giving and gives variety on my page. To sum it up I have included a litle text box to provide the reader with in insight to the images where as Kerrang haven't done so.
On this slide it shows the particular social group that my magazine may attract.
Even though I have selected a women it doesn't mean my magazine is only aimed at women I just felt she was an approproiate person to use as she has that retro/indie look with her dress sense and the way she has the typical rock star sunglasses on and headband.
She also stands out from a crowd in which most my readers would, she's roughly in her twenties and she looks quite laid back and relaxed with the way she's casually walking through a crowd at a festival, my reader enjoys music especially festival music in which festival are included in my magazine.
In this slide I am discussing the target audience and how I attracted them. The reason I have made my magazine the way I have is because I wanted it to be for males and females in which the colour scheme does fit both a boys and girls prospective, the reason its not just for one gender is because I feel both genders listen to this genre of music. I have said its for ages between 15 - 20's because my magazine included things such as gigs and festivals and I don't believe anyone younger than 15 would be at a gig. The particular pictures I have put on this page do represent the audience that would buy this genre of magazine as they look quite individual as if they have their own sense of style and on top of that they look like there into rock and roll music with the whole idea of one of them images being at a festival and another being people playing guitars.
My front cover image represents the whole rock idea with the whole guitar and rock star look, the rusty writing also fits with the idea of indie/rock music being a unique style.
Now in answer to the question of which media institution would distribute your magazine and why.
I would go with the media institution BAUER because not only do they own most of the magazines their magazines are global, They own the 3 magazines in my slide.
Although my magazine is the similar genre to the other 3 mine is a weekly and not a monthly unlike MOJO and its generally cheaper this is to attract the audience and I give things such as posters and give the audience a chance to win things such a festival tickets.
The fact they already publish 3 music magazines with the similar genre shows they have an advanced understanding in the rock/indie genre, they could take this into account and maybe understand what I am trying to achieve out of my magazine.
What have I learnt with technologies in the construction of my magazine.
To begin with the typed of technologies I have been using are camera's, Blogspot and photoshop.
All in all I have learnt how to blog and use http://www.blogspot.com/ fluently, When I first made my account I wasn't familar with blogspot and you wouldn't think if you looked at my blog now that I had no idea what it was. On my blog at the start I had very minimal text and input on here however as I have got further on I use it a lot more and include a lot more text.
Another technology I have adpated skills in the use of camera's, it all seems pretty simple however I feel I now take pictures with more variety as I now look into the angles and composition of my photo's.
To sum it up the technology I have progressed in the most would have to be photoshop, to start with I had no idea how to use it and now I use it effectively, you will see in my first task of making a school prospectus cover that I couldn't do much with it, I only new how to crop things and now I can crop things, change the way a photo looks in colour and style etc and can now blend photo's with other photo's.
If you look at both the image of my artist and Ryan adams you can see both images have been manipulated and they both have that rock look, the guitars resembling they enjoy their music, they're both alone and this is a sign to show they work and produce music alone, this is why my artist from my magazine does fit the rock image.
Now when I look back at the preliminary task, I have noticed Both headings/titles stand out and are can be easily recognized, You can see i've developed an understanding in what makes it look professional and what doesn't for example In my music magazine I have used just 3 different font styles where as in the preliminary one i've used four. I learnt also that using lots of different images wouldn't work so well on a music magazine as it would take the focus of my main subject.
My headings in my music magazine vary, where as my preliminary task is all about doing well in school, it all seems tideous and the same.
I use a colour scheme in my music magazine where as I didn't give the colour scheme for my preliminary much thought.
Overall I feel happy with the outcome of my music magazine, I feel my main task looks professional and Theres not a great amount i'd change, however if I did have more time I would have adapted my contents page as it is reasonable but I feel as if it could of had a bit more text included.

front cover image
Out of all the pictures I took I decided to use this one for the fornt cover as I felt it was best suited to the purpose of my magazine, However I did find it difficult to tyr cut round the image so I therefore lightened it and then altered it by going on to filter and found a tool named 'Threshold' this gave my picture a surreal effect.
For the rest of my front cover I used font from www.Urbanfont.com and I also used Arial black.
double page spread
For my double page spread I felt I wanted to add a little gig news in, to link with this I thought previous images I had taken whilst being on holiday and in london would go.
I used these 3 Pictures.
I used these 3 Pictures.
The first pictures In New York, the second In london and the third In dubai.
I took the Picture of the 'Burj Al Arab' one of Dubai's famous hotels from the sky as I went on a sea plane, The picture of New York is in times square of a night time, even though It had my mums friends in the picture after editing it I still feel it worked well and lastly I took the picture of the Brixton o2 Academy when I went to see the enemy.
Once putting these pictures into photo shop I cropped them, Edited them and even photoshopped some aspects out for example In the London picture I edited out 'The Enemy' sign.
In more detail to how I edited them I went into enhance and colour variations I then Lightened midtones, Saturated the images more etc.

To develop more on my magazine I felt I needed to use someone as an idol to my magazine, I therefore asked my friend to do the honours. I dressed her up and put her in various places and the outcomes where the images Below, I am going to look through them and select the ones I feel are most approproate for my magazine cover; contets ad middle page spread.

Photos For Music magazine.
I attended a festival in the summer and I believe my images could link with the whole indie rock theme.
These are photos I took on my mobile ad the last one is a picture of me and a friend, I included the image in this blog as proof of my presence at the festival.
My ideas on these pictures at the moment are that I may use the first two on the cover and the last picture of the crowd in the contents.
Mock Up Of Music Mag.
For my music magazine I have decided upon a indie/rock magazine.

These are my mock ups of what I want my magazine cover, contents and double page spread to look like.
The first one is my cover, the second my contents and for the double page spread I made two mock ups as I want to try both and then decide upon which one I wish to use.
My mock ups don't have that much colour on however throughout the whole thing I want the colour scheme to be dark blue, red, white and black.

gratifications
In todays lesson I established a Gratification is the:
-Escapism
-Personal Identity
-Identity
-Surveillance
Within a magazine.
In futher detail whats meant by each of these are The way someone can get a break from reality by engaging in a magazine. It helps to give you a sense of personal identity and makes you ask the question to yourself 'Who am i?' from this people get ideas on fashion, idols etc. It also provides information on the world around us. Another thing it provides is a way of social 'Identity' allowing the readership to communicate with others who have similar intrests, it makes a statement about who you are, however there are some problems and downfalls in this for example, people avoid dealing with their own problems by seeking comfort in others. People can become obsessive over various things such as celebs; being fashionable or even eating disorders.
Overall the gratifications within magazines sum up the positives and negatives within a magazine.

evaluation of Kerrang Magazine.
This week in lesson we looked at two very different music magazines, them being 'KERRANG' and 'NME'. I analysed both of them in my book however i'm only focusing on one of them in which you get the obvious idea it will be 'KERRANG'.

This is a weekly magazine that costs £2.20, its genre is rock therefore it would appeal to people who are into rock music. When pronouncing the title 'KERRANG' is an onomatopeia it sounds like a musical tune this could be representing the idea of a musical instrument in which links with the whole idea of rock. On the cover it gives you an insight to whats to come inside, it also offers things such a free posters of what would possibly be peoples idols.
The main colours used on the front cover are black, white, the bright blue and the bright pink, I'd say the black has most probably been used as its often the colour that links a resembles a rock artist and bands. The face theyve used pink and blue is unusual in my opinion however it could be representing the stereotypical idea of it being a magazine for boys and girls (the pink for girls the blue for boys) now to explain the white I think its used just to seperate colours up and to give a bit of light to what could show a dark side.
The cover of the magazine includes a joint picture of two idols from bands, one idol is more forward than the other this could show ones more important than the other, It also helps promote the magazine as you get the idea from it that the type of reader would be a dedicated music fan not only is it the focal point of the magazine i'd say it helps make the main headline stand out. The cover did also use other pictures as they included the two images of whom the free posters were of and it included two mini pictures of other band members at the top.
The font is all the same on the cover however they do vary the size to the importance of it, you get the idea from the cover its going to be about popular know bands however it does promote the unknown bands to its audience.
Overall I think the magazine does serve its purpose as a rock magazine, it offers everything you'd want in a rock magazine.

evaluation of preliminary task - front cover/contents
Before I begin my evaulation I would like to include I borrowed some pictures off my media friends due to my pictures not uploading onto the computer.
I decided on a plain red background with a header in which I made black, the reason I decided upon a plain background was because i didn't want to over crowd the page with loads of pictures. I used the colour red and black because it represented the st marks colours. To fill up some space on my bacground i selected two main images them being one of a person on the drums and the other of a ticket for a school performance; the reason i selected these images was because I thought they linked with the whole idea of my main front cover stories being themed around school performances and music. I also included a section of an image this being of bright blue lockers, I used it as a kind of border as I believed it made the front cover stand out a bit and it also shows the school has purchased new lockers. I cut out a picture of a dancer from a photo also as it linked with the whole performance story. On the front cover I varied the font style so that it wasn't all the same and because I wanted to make the text all one colour I wanted the reader to distinguish that not all the text was about the same story. Even though I used white as my text colour I still made it clear what my title was by making it the biggest text on the page and putting it specifically in the middle of the page at the top. To sum up whats included I added the st marks logo to represent the school and so it would indicate to people that it is a catholic school.
The text on my front cover are by-lines meaning they give the audience a glimpse of what will be inside the magazine, I didn't include too many of them as I didn't want to over crowd the page however I don't think I clarifyed enough on the front cover that the magazine wasn't all about just performance.
For my contents page I carried on the theme of my front cover by using the same colour background and then for a border I used the black again however I changed it so the writing and border was on the side of the page this was so I could give the text some space and layout the text in an approachable manor. I didn't include the name of the magazine or the logo as I felt it was only needed once on the cover, to give the page a bit of character I added pictures of which I thought could link with the stories.
Overall I found this project took me a fair time to achieve I therefore think next time I need to plan my time out wisely, Another thing I have learnt from this is I should approach the task with a better knowledge of whats expected of a school magazine for example I could go and ask people what they'd expect from a magazine.

Overall I found this project took me a fair time to achieve I therefore think next time I need to plan my time out wisely, Another thing I have learnt from this is I should approach the task with a better knowledge of whats expected of a school magazine for example I could go and ask people what they'd expect from a magazine.

analysis of two magazine covers
We was asked to analyse and annotate the front cover of two university magazines.
The first magazine was the 'QUAD' its comes from the Almuni Community of Queen Mary, a london university judging from the cover it looks as though its going to be very formal and sophisticated. At the top of the cover is the masthead in the top right corner it reads 'QUAD' in black bold writing and beside it on the left is an image of Queen Mary, this could be showing its a strict and powerful magazine. It includes an image of students graduating and members of staff, this gives me the vibe that they thrive off success from students and they see their members of staff as a huge importance to their students success, not only do they include these pictures on the cover but another group photo of students of success however its in the past giving us the idea that the university has history and many successful students. Theres two images left one being a man of some importance holding an award and another thats some sort of arena, the university looks as though its multicultural.

You can tell its formal because of the layout of the whole cover and they way no pictures are over lapping and its not using any words to persuade a person to join.
Overall I think this magazine is good in the sense of giving the university a good representation of being successful however it may throw people of the idea of joining that university due to the seriousness and impact of success its giving, it may intimidate students into thinking they're not good enough.
The other cover was for 'Newsman' a university in Birmingham, this cover portrays it as a more informal magazine this is due to the front cover being generally quite packed with things that are irrelevant to the university, the reasons for me thinking this is because of judging from looking at it personally I wouldn't know from first glance without reading the text on it that it was made for the purpose of a university, the deeper meaning to this is the image of the hulk, the small school girl and a small child playing some sort of gadget. These are the images that don't link with the theme of it being a university.
As I mentioned before there is text on the cover stating its a university however its not very informative and it doesn't tell you what the university offers, the text used is quite hard to read also because of the way its been put on there at a funny angle.
So overall i don't believe its a good front cover for a university magazine due to it not being not a very informative cover, it doesn't in any form or way portray it as a university that requires success as the main key and it doesn't give justice on it being very professional.

summary of 'Varsity' newspaper

This is the second student university magazine/newspaper I looked at, Its based in cambridge and unlike the american magazine 'The Sheaf' its set out in a more formal manor, its set in a newspaper style way where as 'The Sheaf' was a magazine and had two sections one of which was set out in a similar way just not as structured.
This paper is a student paper which has been made since 1947, its a weekly paper meaning 21 issues per year are made and is put together by a group of upto 40 students.
It consists of New features, Opinions, Editorial content, Fashion, Reviews, An essential guide to whats on in Cambridge and Reference guides from job application deadlines to saturday night entertainment, this is very similar to 'The Sheaf' and offers things of the same sort.
Its a non-profit free newspaper/magazine and is there to encourage students intrested in journalism, its distributed from Mail rooms, Common rooms, Social area's, departments of extensive subscription lists and uni facilities, up to 10,000 copies are sent out to all 31 colleges in the Cambridge University.
Unlike 'The Sheaf' it hasn't stated any policies it runs by, although I think this is set out in a more interlectual and approachable manor I think for students 'The Sheaf' would be more appealing and draw attention to your eyes more so overall I think its produced excellently and is for a good cause, however personally i'd prefer to read 'The Sheaf'.
Wednesday 27th plan of a student magazine
In class today we were set the task of planning for a student magazine, We then got put into groups to discuss the Target audience; The content; The price; The Distribution; The Advertisements and The Censorship and Editorial issues.
The task will be an individual one where we shall work alone, however the group i was in shall all be using the same photograph took as their front cover image.
So far the the 'Audience' for this magazine would be sixth form students from St Marks, this is therefore the reason why i titled my magazine 'Marks Monthly' its a pun on words with the whole idea of it being aimed at St Marks students. The contents of my magazine includes Adverts of quality reason; Achievements and events for students in the school and out, lastly global issues will be looked at too. My magazine will be free and will only make profit through the advertisments, talking of 'Adverts' the types of adverts added into my magazine will be what events are going on in and out of school. Extra curriculum classes to help students, Jobs, Student discount offers and Local convenient store offers on food.
For the 'Censorship and Editorial issues' it will be the same students frequently writing for the magazine, however others will be offered the oppurtunity to have input regarding that their stories and input isn't putting others down, it gives everyone an equal right and is fully against Anti racism, Homophobic and sexist.

Summary 'The Sheaf' magazine
We looked at a university student magazine indepth and was then
set task to make a brief summary of it aswell as research our own choice of student university magazine.

set task to make a brief summary of it aswell as research our own choice of student university magazine.
We looked at an American student university newspaper called The Sheaf its a student newspaper that has been published since 1912. It consists of two sections one section called the A section and the other the B section. As you can see the A section is more formal and involves things such as news, peoples opinions, stories, letters and adverts, it looks as though its less formal judging from the front cover, however its stories are of more importance. Section B is informal, although you would'nt believe it from the way its set out it includes things such as social lives, band interviews,cd reviews, night scene and sports. Its main purpose is to mirror a students life and publicize events occuring on campus that will be important to the students. I think you can tell its a student magazine from section A because of the front cover image used looks as though its been took by a student and also includes two people in which im persuming are students.
Its a non profit organisation and offers a chance for students to write it, the profits made are generated through the adverts. Its a weekly pulished magazine and usually hits the stands on a wednesday evening, papers are distributed to colleges on campus.
The sheafs purpose and overall mission is to inform and entertain and to address relevant issues that will input on life in the campus. It also gives forum for a discussion a wide and various range of issues of concern to students and lastly it allows students to write to appeal to other students, It does have certain policies in which they include the right to veto(cut out) any submission they see as unfit for the newspaper, they also decide whether an article or artwork is beneficial and of intrest to the readers and lastly the policy ends with the right to not publish anything that may be racist, sexist, homophobic or libelous material in any form or manor.
Overall I think the sheaf magazine has a good purpose and it aim's to please students in everyway that they require, its not over the top and you can almost tell straight away from looking at it that its a student magazine.
Tuesday 19th
Wednesday 20th

After given the task of taking a photograph of the image we would use as our front cover we got working on it straight away.
The types of things i done to my image was enhance the colour to make the greens brighter and more outstanding, I edited the hue and saturation of the image and overall this made it a bolder piece. Ontop of the editing i cut the image down so i could put in a masthead at the top with a green background so that the title of my magazine wouldn't get lost in the shot, the reason i chose the masthead background to be green was so it blended in with the whole theme 'nature' and gave it a fresh look. I used white text so that it would stand out amongst all the greens and natural earthy colours in my photo.
After adding a few stories onto my front cover i felt there needed to be something in the middle of the page so i then thought of a main story which was 'Saving the world by saving the trees' I made the words world and tree bold and used capitals to emphasize the words and on top of that instead of using original white text I used the colour red for both these words to show the importance and represent the love we should have towards both things.
Overall I think I done a good job at making a front cover because it was my first attempt and i feel as though I achieved the purpose of the task however I could still improve it by using a wider range of skills on photoshop.
Audience profile for nature magazine
My nature magazine is mostly aimed at people of the older age range, roughly 25- 45 years old. It would appeal to their intrests more than the younger generation due to the stories being world changing and impactive of Global issues in which older people understand the logic to. I'd say its an informal magazine, put down to the title 'Easy Nature' the more indepth meaning to this could mean its a more accesible way for everyone to be intrested in nature.
If I was to be stereotypical I would class my magazine as being aimed at males because its more than likely they'd buy nature magazines than woman would as its one of them things of importance to males where as woman care more for fashion etc. On the topic of Who its aimed at I Think it could be the working/middle class, this is because of the informal use of language; the easy educational way of understanding the natural enviornment and mostly its a easier way for the working/middle class people to understand the knowledge of how to make a difference and whats occuring in the nature.
I haven't put a price on it as of yet but I would price it between £1- £1.50, this is a cheap price for that type of magazine and very affordable, because of the magazine being such a low price freebies would be very rare and may only occur on a special occasion. it would be a monthly magazine making the reader more intrigued and involved so it would keep them waiting aswell as draw them back with the exciting new stories.
The image used on my magazine promotes the idea of nature through the natural colours and the way i've used photoshop to enhance it. The characteristics of the actual image offers tree's with a flowing water fall in the background.
If i was to improve my magazine i would put a price on it and possibly include things such as comepetions and freebies so it would attract more people as theres not much going on to keep the customer loyal.
